Fall 2020 Programming with Nature Linc

Farrington’s program staff continues to work hard in these ever-changing circumstances to provide kids with nature-based programs, (outdoors, socially distanced, and masked) both on our site in Lincoln and off-site, as well as virtual opportunities. This fall we hosted seven weeks of in-person programming in partnership with Somerville Parks & Recreation at a field in Somerville for youth grades K-5, and offered an eleven-week virtual Nature Club in partnership with SomerSocial, an after school program based in Somerville. We also hosted a four-week virtual Nature Club with Prospect Hill Academy Charter School’s STEAM Saturday program.

We also tested a new form of Experience by hosting "virtual field trips" with students in Boston and Waltham public schools, and the nonprofit Sibling Connections (siblings separated through the foster care system).

Lastly, we were excited to provide additional trips and experiences for the teens in our teen program, as well as for their younger siblings and cousins. These monthly activities included rock climbing in Gloucester with a professional guide, a day at Nature Linc putting the garden “to bed” for the winter, and a parkour workshop with Parkour Generations Boston. In December, we met virtually due to increased COVID concerns. That did not stop us from learning virtually about nature photography, healthy cooking, and people of color in the rock climbing community, and making cards with natural materials for folks in long-term care facilities and shelters!
