We Stand Together
Belonging is not conditional. Dignity is not optional.
A message from the Board of Directors and Staff
We stand—and will continue to stand—with immigrant communities and all Black, Indigenous, and People of Color who are being unconstitutionally targeted by ICE and the federal government of the United States.
Recent murders in Minnesota and across the country have brought renewed visibility to the deadly consequences of federal enforcement agendas. These most recent, highly visible and well-documented deaths demand public attention. Yet they must also be understood within a broader and more troubling reality: violence and death at the hands of federal enforcement are not rare, and visibility is not equally afforded to many Black, Brown, Indigenous, and undocumented victims.
Since January 2025, eight people have been killed in shootings connected to enforcement actions. More than 31 people have died while detained in federal custody, amid serious and ongoing concerns about medical neglect, lack of oversight, and the failure to provide basic care. Countless additional incidents of excessive force have been documented against citizens and immigrants alike. These are not isolated tragedies—they are the result of systemic choices that prioritize punishment, deterrence, and political agendas over human life.
The consequences of this violence ripple outward, shaping the daily realities of families and young people who are forced to live with fear, instability, and grief. When families are targeted or torn apart, children’s sense of safety, belonging, and wellbeing is deeply harmed. These conditions undermine the possibility for young people to learn, grow, and thrive.
We reject the false and dangerous narrative that portrays undocumented people as violent criminals. Immigrants are neighbors, caregivers, workers, culture-bearers, and leaders. In a nation built on stolen land and shaped by forced displacement and migration, we affirm that no one is illegal and no one is lesser because of where they or their family come from.
We are resolute in our belief that every person deserves dignity, safety, and the full protection of constitutional rights. We ask our community to pay attention, seek justice, and to refuse narratives that dehumanize or excuse violence.
We call on all who share a commitment to justice and on those with power and influence to confront these realities honestly, reject dehumanization and misinformation, and insist on policies and practices that protect life, uphold the law, and allow all families and communities to live without fear.
Belonging is not conditional. Dignity is not optional. Silence and inaction are choices—and we choose connection, belonging and action.
