Position Title: Youth in Nature Party Host (Part-Time, 5-10 hours/week as needed)


Position Overview: 

Are you passionate about working with youth people and families? Do you enjoy helping others enjoy spending time outdoors? Are you a forward thinker, self-starter, and have high energy? Then we are looking for you!


This is a weekend position, requiring at least 1-2 half or full days of work on Saturdays and/or Sundays, at least 2-3 weekends per month to support outdoor youth birthday parties and community events at our site in Lincoln, MA. This often looks like one or two weekends shifts, ranging from 5-8 hours each (1-2 parties). Hours are mornings or afternoons. Candidates must be able to consistently work weekends with few exceptions.


Scheduling and hours will be determined by the Executive Director, in consultation with the Program Director, based on organization needs and Party Host availability.

Programming takes place primarily outdoors in all types of weather.

Transportation to our site in Lincoln, MA is required.

Benefits

  • This position is compensated at $22.00/hour and is paid on a biweekly basis. 

  • There are no benefits.

  • Mileage reimbursement at the standard federal rate of $0.67/mile for 2024 for any approved travel that is longer than your commute from your home to FNL’s office in Lincoln.

Organization Overview: Farrington Nature Linc’s mission is to enhance the well-being of children from low-income communities through a connection with the natural world. Programmatic Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility is to prepare, set up, and lead birthday parties at our site in Lincoln, MA for youth ages 4-13 with small groups of between 10-20 youth and support other weekend community events.

  • Utilize and adapt existing party curriculum. While you will primarily work off of birthday party plans previously developed by the Program team, the Party Host may occasionally develop and document new activities, subject to Program Director request or approval. 

  • Facilitate organized party and event activities and ensures children are active, interested, and safe throughout activities ensuring quality experience and engagement for families and their guests 

  • Greet, acknowledges, and interact with members and their guests in a friendly and professional manner

  • Report to coworkers any unsafe conditions and necessary repairs at FNL involving garden, trails, equipment, buildings, or COVID-19 protocols.



Qualifications:

  • At least 20 years of age

  • 2 years of college and/or work experience working with elementary school-aged children

  • An outgoing, flexible, can-do approach to working with youth

  • Hands-on outdoor experience (hiking, campfires, environmental science knowledge) is a plus, but is not a requirement. The ideal Party Host will model for youth a willingness to learn about, explore, and show enthusiasm toward aspects of nature that may or may not be personally familiar to the Party Host.

  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal

  • Have or be willing to obtain First Aid and CPR Certifications.

  • Basic Computer and Technology Skills

  • Physical ability to negotiate hilly terrain, dirt roads and dirt and gravel trails.

  • Physical ability to respond quickly to situations requiring immediate action.

  • Ability to work independently including ability to take direction with little follow-up

  • Ability to be on feet continuously during shift

  • Ability to speak clearly and confidently

  • FNL staff members are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

  • Applicants must agree to a CORI check as part of the job screening, but evidence of a criminal record is not necessarily an impediment to hiring. A copy of our CORI policy is available upon request.
